Georgia-Pacific Prosperity Police & Convoy of Hope Aid After Helene

Prosperity, S.C., November 19, 2024 – Georgia-Pacific, a leading manufacturer of building products, tissue, pulp, paper, and packaging materials, was proud to work together with the Prosperity Police Department and other local officials to aid residents of Prosperity, South Carolina and the surrounding area. Through the company’s long-term partnership with Convoy of Hope, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing disaster relief, residents received vital supplies such as food, water, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies. More than 1,000 families drove to the Prosperity Civic Center and received the items.
“Georgia-Pacific is committed to creating stronger communities in which our employees work and live,” said Prosperity Plywood plant manager, Kevin Livingston. “With assistance from Police Chief Wesley Palmore and Mayor Derek Underwood, we were able to bring the residents of Prosperity and Newberry County some much needed relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. This, along with our partnership with The Convoy of Hope proves once again how quickly our community can come together to help those in need.”
Along with Georgia-Pacific employees, the Prosperity Police Department played a vital role in making sure that the event was able to maximize its benefit to the community.
“The partnership between Georgia-Pacific, the town of Prosperity, and the Prosperity Police Department was amazing!” said Prosperity Police Chief Wesley Palmore. “We were able to provide much needed donated items from the Convoy of Hope to over 1,000 families impacted by Hurricane Helene.
The people from Pomaria, Prosperity, and all over Newberry County were very appreciative! I’m thankful for all the volunteers who gave numerous hours of their time, and the Prosperity Police Department is looking forward to future collaborations with Georgia-Pacific to help our community.”
The joint effort between Georgia-Pacific and the local community exemplifies the power of collaboration in times of crisis. By combining resources and expertise, these two groups were able to deliver timely and effective assistance to the residents of Prosperity.
