DensDeck® Prime and DensDeck® StormX™ Prime Roof Boards are specially designed to help your roof resist hail damage—from minimal to very severe.
In response to intense weather trends in recent years, the roofing industry is adapting to the growing weather-related concerns. Although hail resistance has always been a part of FM Approvals’ roof system certifications, increased hailstorm intensity has resulted in FM Approvals adding a Very Severe Hail (VSH) rating to its categories for hail resistance classification. (Learn more about the VSH FM rating here.)
DensDeck® Prime Roof Board is recommended for all MH (moderate hail) and SH (severe hail) systems, while DensDeck® StormX™ Prime Roof Board further enhances the hail resistance of any of these systems-approved for use in single-ply assemblies meeting FM VSH classification. Consult FM Approval’s RoofNav for specific VSH-rated assemblies.
The cause for concern from hailstone puncture is obvious. The speed and velocity with which medium hailstones fall from the sky can leave small holes, while larger stones do increasingly greater damage. Without a high-performance roof board to protect the assembly from puncture, water can enter through holes in the membrane caused by hail damage, which can then lead to wet and damaged insulation (diminishing its thermal heat regulation ability.)
DensDeck StormX roof boards are approved for use in assembles meeting FM Approvals’ new Very Severe Hail (VSH) classification anywhere extreme hail (2 inches or larger) is a concern. Consult RoofNav for specific VSH-rated assembly information.
DensDeck® StormX™ Prime Roof Boards help improve the puncture resistance of the assembly, reducing the likelihood of moisture intrusion through puncture in the membrane. If moisture does get into the roof, the board’s EONIC™ Technology can help reduce the risk and impact on the cover board’s performance.
Made from inorganic fiberglass and crystalized gypsum, both DensDeck Prime and DensDeck StormX roof boards also include built-in EONIC™ Technology, which doubles the roof boards’ resistance to moisture. Storms lose their strength against high-performance DensDeck roof boards’ puncture and water resistance.
NOTE: Moisture has a detrimental effect on every cover board, including DensDeck® Roof Boards and every effort should be taken to keep them dry before, during and after installation. Damage or reduction in performance resulting from exposure to more than an incidental amount of moisture is NOT covered by the limited warranty for DensDeck® Roof Boards.
